HALLOWEEN, COSTUME &
PARTY SHOW
LEAVING LAS VEGAS
For many year, the Transworld Halloween Costume and Party
convention has been a big draw for all people in the Halloween industry.
Usually held in Chicago at the end of February, a separate show was
started in Las Vegas, NV in 2008.
Unfortunately it only lasted two years
before they decided to close down this convention. Some say it was too
inconvenient to attend. Some said that the cost of hotel rooms and booth
space was just too high, which we tend to agree with as the number 1
cause of problems.
Las Vegas used to thought of as place
where you could get inexpensive hotel rooms, low cost buffets, great
deals on convention space and you might even be lucky enough to win at
the slots to top off your trip. These days are long gone! Las Vegas has
turned into a high cost destination where the rooms are expensive, the
food costs an arm and a leg and if you happen to win $5.00, you can
count yourself lucky. It is not the Las Vegas that we know and love,
even from just 10 years ago.
While greed has always been king in
Las Vegas, it was worsened over the past ten years as super hotels and
casinos have taken over and the state gaming commission has lowered the
pay out odds even more in favor of the house, not the gambler. You can
go through $100.00 in ten minutes without blinking and get nothing back
for your trouble except anger.
The city of Las Vegas talks about low
revenues, a lack of tourism, low hotel revenues and a lack of interest
in Las Vegas in general as a vacation destination, they blame it on a
bad economy but those of us who live here know the truth.
The real problems has become the high
cost of vacationing or holding a convention in Vegas. When you have to
pay $300.00 for cheap seats to see headliner in concert, pay $175.00 a
night for a supposed discounted single room and top it all off with
throwing way too much money in slot machines, not even getting a bonus
game to lift your spirits let alone win something back, there you'll
find the real reason that people are not flocking in droves to Sin City
anymore. The powers that be in Vegas just don't seem to get that greed
is NOT good when it comes to tourism!
